Meeting Topic: The Mindful Workday - How to Shift from Surviving to Thriving
Speaker: Cindy Byrd, Founder/Owner - Image Potential
About the presentation: Intentionally taking time throughout your work day to slow the pace, be in the moment, and regain the ability to focus and concentrate is critical to your overall well-being and, in turn, your level of positive engagement in work and life. Most days, however, seem to go by in a flurry of activity, wondering at the end of the day what you may have even accomplished. The ability to focus and concentrate has become challenged by increased demands to deal with growing amounts of information, data, and unexpected and/or necessary change while still being expected to function proactively, make sound judgments, and deliver results. Add to this the responsibilities and challenges experienced in other parts of life, and it’s no wonder we often feel distracted, stressed, and overwhelmed – surviving from day to day vs. truly experiencing the joy that can come from thriving instead.
And when we feel this way, there are several negative outcomes. The ability to “just be” is diminished along with creativity, judgment, problem-solving skills, and even civility – we may react in negative or inappropriate ways towards others, even when we know better or don’t intend to do so. That’s because we’re naturally wired that way - the primitive part of the brain is reactionary and can result in being “emotionally hijacked.” Regular mindfulness practice, however, redirects brain activity to help meet challenges with a greater sense of competence, calm, and confidence.
In this interactive program, you’ll learn simple techniques for integrating mindfulness throughout your work day in order to improve presence and focus, enhance the ability to manage adversity, and ultimately shift from surviving to thriving.
